Marilou Danley, Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock's girlfriend, returns to US

At least 45 patients at two hospitals remained in critical condition.

Authorities said Paddock, who had no criminal record, smashed windows in his hotel room shortly after 10pm on Sunday and rained fire on a crowd of some 22,000 attending a country music concert below. She left on September 15.

While the White House has rebuffed calls to reopen the fraught USA debate on gun control, Congress did shelve a controversial plan to make it easier to purchase gun silencers and make it more hard to classify certain ammunition as "armor piercing".

Photos from 2013 show Paddock visiting the southeastern Asian island nation. There were no immediate details available about those trips.

On Tuesday, authorities spoke with Marilou, who was in the Philippines.

Investigators said that Marilou Danley, Geary Danley's ex-wife and a person of interest, was a companion of Stephen Paddock.

Danley reportedly arrived at Los Angeles International Airport from the Philippines at about 7:30 p.m. PT and was being escorted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the city as Las Vegas police planned to question her there.

She was out of the country when Paddock opened fire with high-powered rifles from a 32nd floor hotel room at a sea of concertgoers below on the Las Vegas Strip.

Both resorts are managed by casino magnate Steve Wynn.

Danley was originally sought by officials early Monday morning in the immediate aftermath of Sunday night's shooting. The spokesman says they've returned to the practice of only scanning bags and guests when they "believe the need arises".

Marilou Danley's sisters were interviewed by Australia's Channel 7 TV network with their faces obscured and their names withheld. In fact, they said the only reason she was in the Philippines was because Paddock told her he had found a cheap ticket. Earlier reports said that Danley was expected to return to USA soil on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, a nephew of Paddock's girlfriend says he's stunned didn't even know that Paddock was interested in guns.

Ms Danley has held various jobs over the years, including working for an airline and selling Avon cosmetics, reported The Washington Post.

That's because Paddock had a nasty habit of berating Danley in public.

Knights told Australia's Channel 9 from his home near Brisbane, "It seemed like he just looked after my aunty and that was it".

Chairperson Siphosezwe Masango has described Monday's terror attack in which more than 50 people were killed as senseless.

He said that Paddock "didn't seem like he was the type of guy to do that".

After a mass shooting, or any shooting really, if the murderer happens to be a white dude, he usually gets the "oh he was always so nice and quiet, I can't believe he would do something like this" treatment.
