CBI to probe Pradyamun's murder; state to control school for 3 months

Khattar added that the state would take over the administration of the school for three months. The investigation into the murder of an eight-year-old student in Gurgaon's Ryan International School has been handed to the Central Bureau of Investigation, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Friday. Police have arrested Ashok Kumar, a conductor of one of the school's buses, as the prime suspect in the case. "If any loopholes are found in the implementation of rules (at the school), the term of the deputy commissioner as administrator can be increased".

"This incident (the murder of Pradhyumn) was unfortunate".

Meanwhile, CBI, which will begin its probe into the case, will file a fresh chargesheet and has sought fresh custody of the accused.

Gurugram Police Commissioner Sandeep Khirwar, while speaking to the press, said cross-questioning of school staff and office-bearers would be conducted to verify the claims made by them and bring out facts in the case.

He also gave in to the parents' demand and said that the case will be handed over to the CBI. I appeal to the CBI to fast-track the case.

"I am glad that the sensitivity that this case deserves has been shown", Pradyuman's father Varun Thakur was quoted by the Indian Express as saying.

The school's principal was suspended on September 9 amid protests by agitated parents. He allegedly tried to sexually assault Pradyuman.

Besides Harpal Singh, the SIT has questioned 17 persons including section in-charge Anju Dudeja, suspended acting principal Neerja Batra, former principal Rakhi Verma, bus driver Saurabh Raghav, bus contractor Harkesh Pradhan and eight security guards. Many protestors alleged the conductor, who was arrested in the case, was framed as part of a "bigger conspiracy" by the school authorities. "I am also assuring them that the culprits in this case whether it is from the school management or otherwise, will not be spared", Khattar said.
