Telethon for hurricane relief raises more than $44 million

Other famous faces who appeared during the telethon included Ryan Seacrest, Justin Timberlake, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Gwen Stefani, Dennis Quaid, Stephen Colbert, Diddy and Kerry Washington.

By the end of the hour, $44 million dollars were raised to aid the victims of Harvey and Irma. Apple donated $5 million, while Albertson's and Merck each donated $1 million. The NBA Association donated $500,000 and vowed to match any NBA player's donation up to $20,000, NBA player Chris Paul announced.

Some of the biggest monetary contributions came from Michael and Susan Dell, who matched the first $ 10 million of the night - They've now given a total of $41 million to the Rebuild Texas Fund.

Donations went to Comic Relief USA and will be divided up among local charities in the Texas areas affected by Harvey, and now Irma in Florida as well. Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Oprah and Cher made appearances, describing the widespread devastation the storm caused. Actor Wilmer Valderrama said of his profession: "We are that secondary army that's deployed to just do something that very few can achieve and I think that that's a blessing. We're compassionate. We're unstoppable when we unite, when we join together hand-in-hand". Singer-songwriter Luis Fonsi, who performed "Hallelujah" with Tori Kelly, was moved by viewers making donations.

Blake Shelton and Usher sang a duet of "Stand by Me", while Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, Demi Lovato and CeCe Winans united for a moving performance of the Beatles' classic, "With a Little Help from My Friends".

"Natural disasters don't discriminate". "They don't see if you're an immigrant, black or white, Jewish or Muslim…Seeing everyone of different social, racial and religious backgrounds…restored my faith in humanity".

The telethon will air on each of the four major broadcast networks in ABC, Fox, NBC, and CBS; in addition to Bravo, E!

Houston rap artist Bun B and Scooter Braun, a Hollywood talent manager and founder of SB Projects, are the organizers.
