Heavy rain and winds of up to 70mph set to hit Chester

Strong gusts across England and Wales are expected on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning as autumnal weather sweeps in.

A Met Office rain warning said: "30 to 40 mm of rain falling within six to nine hours seems likely to lead to flooding of some sections of road and perhaps also properties".

The Met Office says that people should expect longer journey times when travelling by road, rail and air, while restrictions will be in place on some roads and bridges.

"Isolated gusts over 50 miles per hour are possible across the western coast of Wales as well as the southwestern coasts of England".

A WEATHER warning for eight Irish counties has been extended - as Storm Aileen is set to batter the country with gusts of up to 110km/h. Rain is also expected to affect all of Northern Ireland and the south of Scotland in the evening.

"This warning has been expanded in area and with the likelihood of "medium" impacts increased".

Chilly winds coming down from the the Arctic region will bring a cool feel across the country, she added.

"Feeling rather cool in a straight Arctic northerly breeze".
