Alabama sophomore QB Jalen Hurts completed 14-of-18 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 154 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries in Saturday's 41-10 win over Fresno Sate.

Fresno State: Managed to move at times against Alabama's defense, but couldn't reach the end zone until late. Jalen Hurts faked the hand off to Damien Harris and ran 55 yards for the touchdown! The 6-foot-2 junior has been Fresno State's most reliable pass catcher the past few years, including leading the team with 66 receptions, 773 yards and six touchdowns last season.

Hurts was almost ideal in the first half, completing 12 of 13 pass attempts for 112 yards - including a 23-yard touchdown throw to Hentges to cap the second offensive series.

The top-ranked Alabama football team is off to a 2-0 start, but there are still burning questions to answer going into Saturday's home game against Colorado State. Time is winding down before the Tide's trip to Vanderbilt in two weeks, so Tagovailoa is primed to see some action if (when) Saturday's game becomes a farce. Whatever you or I think of Hurts as a passer is only relevant to what he's asked to do inside the Tide's offense to give it the best chance of winning.

Following Alabama's defeat of Fresno State, it's apparent to me now that Daboll won't force Hurts to be "new", because by being "new", you'd be asking him to be something he's not: a pocket passer. Hurts was never sacked and averaged 15.4 yards per carry.

Alabama led 28-3 at halftime against Fresno State, which opened coach Jeff Tedford's first season with a 66-0 victory against Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Incarnate Word. Early in the second quarter, freshman quarterback Tua Tagovailoa got the opportunity to come in and play with the first-team offense. The 'Dogs covered 70 yards on nine plays on that drive and rolled 4:21 off the clock.

Following back-to-back Bulldog punts, the Crimson Tide drove the ball down the field easily, using six plays and amassing 77 yards in just 2:29, finishing the drive with a five-yard touchdown run by junior running back Damien Harris. He connected with Henry Ruggs, III on a 16-yard touchdown pass for the game's final score. When Hurts was in, he did whatever he wanted through the air and gashed the Bulldogs on the ground at will.

Tagovailoa did finally get the offense moving on the Tide's final drive of the game against Fresno's defensive backups.

Four linebackers will be out for the game with injury.

"We obviously have a lot of work to do at that position", Saban said, adding that the game experience will help in that regard.

$1,400,000: The Fresno State athletic department will pocket $1.4 million for this Tuscaloosa trip, according to a copy of the game contract obtained by The Anniston Star.
