Gut Feeling: Writers' Final Preview Of Cowboys-Giants

Odell Beckham Jr.'s chances of playing Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys look increasingly unlikely and slim-to-none.

Overall, the Cowboys lead this series with a record of 62-46-2. The Giants' defensive line was built to compete against the Cowboys' offensive line. Before that Dallas reeled off five consecutive victories over the Giants. But now it seems an offseason he couldn't wait to end could last at least one more week, if his ankle injury doesn't feel good enough during pre-game warmups to let him play. However, he added that there is "real doubt" whether Beckham will play in the NFC East game.

Beckham Jr. injured his ankle in the team's preseason game against Cleveland on August 21. He redeemed himself later in the year, but the Cowboys themselves lost both games to the Giants.

In the event Beckham is unable to go on Sunday night, the Giants will turn to veteran Brandon Marshall, sophomore Sterling Shepard and a combination of Tavarres King and Roger Lewis to fill the void. Paul Perkins enters the season as the starter, but will need to play better than he did in his rookie season to hold onto his job. The Giants' offense is what it is. With him, Eli Manning has a trusted target back on the field, the player whose ascension to the NFL's most rarefied air came against these same Cowboys in the form of an unforgettable one-handed sideline grab. "In the third year in the system - not all the guys have been here three years - but I expect them to think if they are in graduate school with the scheme".

Smith, a second-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, missed all of last season due to nerve damage suffered in his knee during his final season with the Fighting Irish.

The questions for Dallas are all on defense.
