Spain's Nadal Named Top Seed at US Open

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal could face off in a US Open semi-final after both men were placed in the same half of the draw for the final major of 2017.

It's no surprise given the respective seasons these two tennis giants have had.

The former world number one has won three grand slams in a calendar year three times before, but not since 2007. I saw enough in Montreal to say there is a question mark about him when there were no such question marks over him going into Wimbledon.

Now shifting to Andy Murray.

Federer only returned to the game in January 2017 after six-month after spending a large portion of last season injured.

En route to those titles he comfortably defeated Nadal twice to extend his recent win-streak over the Spaniard to four.

It should ease the path of the remaining big-hitters, with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray among those looking to add to their Grand Slam hauls. He had 10 days away on holiday, but he hasn't had the preparation building into the US Open that he had for Australia and Wimbledon.

The Canadian has been struggling with a persistent wrist injury and has been forced to withdraw. This year, Murray reached the semifinals of the French Open and the quarterfinals of Wimbledon.

Federer, the five-time United States champion from 2004-2008, is bidding for a 20th major and third of the year after capturing the Australian Open and Wimbledon titles. Murray also can not meet either Nadal or Roger Federer until the final, with both on the other side of the draw. "Finally, after all these years, I get a chance to actually support his forehand, his aggressive play, his everything, his fighting spirit".

We will also have coverage of the World Tour Finals in November with every match live on Sky Sports. If Nadal storms into the final, he has to insure that neither Murray nor Federer wins the title, however, he will still retain top honour if he finishes as runners-up with the condition that neither Federer nor Murray could make it to the finals. "So for us to spend sort of a week together on the same team and exchanging ideas of how we could win the Laver Cup, I think it's going to be really highly entertaining for both of us", said the 19-time Grand Slam champion.

There's no doubt that Zverev is a potential future major victor, but 2017 is perhaps a tad too soon. An unorthodox opponent, he is more at home on clay.

"The defending champion Wawrinka is in the hospital and has knee surgery, last year's finalist Djokovic has a hurt elbow, so they are out".

"At the moment we're just assuming that Roger is going to pull the rabbit out of the hat again", McEnroe was quoted as saying by Reuters.

Federer is ranked No 3 so Friday's draw will determine whether he and Nadal are scheduled to meet in the semi-finals or final. It's been an unfortunate hard-court stretch.

Will the stars align for perhaps a final major chapter in tennis' greatest rivalry?
