Real Madrid started off their La Liga title defence with a comfortable at the Riazor. The winger scored one goal while setting up another, showing that he still has it in him to perform for Real.

Five players were sent off in eight Liga games over the weekend, compared to two in nine Premier League games.

Deportivo nearly managed to pull one back late on but Florin Andone saw his penalty kick saved by goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

Madrid, who were playing without their suspended talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, put themselves ahead as early as in the 20th minute of the match when Bale notched up an opener from a very close range.

Kroos had the first half-chance of the second period after finding space in an advanced area, but the German's effort was deflected wide of the Deportivo post six minutes after the break.

Then, great teamwork seven minutes later resulted in wide-ranging ball movement prior to a crossing shot by Marcelo that Casemiro picked up for the second tally. After a string of passes, Marcelo fired in a low driven cross which found Casemiro, who made no mistake and tapped home.

Sergio Ramos had a moment of madness, as he got into an altercation over Fabian Schar and pushed the player into the ground. "We'll now look at the next game and we'll see how we're going to approach it".

Just before the game ended, Andone had a weak penalty saved, adding to his frustrations.

Gareth Bale, Casemiro and Toni Kroos were all on the scoresheet as La Liga champions Real Madrid opened their 2017-18 campaign with a 3-0 victory at Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday night.
