It's official: Reince Priebus, Donald Trump's beleaguered chief of staff, is out.

Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) took to her Twitter account Friday to attack President Donald Trump's new chief of staff, Gen. John Kelly, as an "extremist".

People close to Trump had largely blamed the chief of staff for the White House's troubles in Congress, where the president has yet to secure a major legislative victory.

'He is a Great American. and a Great Leader. "John has also done a spectacular job at Homeland Security", Trump said, adding that Kelly has been "a true star of my administration". "The president needs someone who understands the Trump constituency as his chief of staff, someone who has both administrative skills and political savvy", Roger Stone, Trump's off-and-on adviser, said, anticipating Kelly's selection before the announcement was made. "I would like to thank Reince Priebus for his service and dedication to his country". So I'm happy for him.

According to the Department of Defense, the four-star Marine general, 67, was born and raised in Boston, "enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1970, and was discharged as a sergeant in 1972, after serving in an infantry company with the 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina". "It's not like it's a situation where there's a lot of ill feelings".

Kelly is now the secretary of Homeland Security. Trump also tweeted his thanks to Priebus. But what remains to be seen is whether Trump will listen to him as Kelly seeks to bring order to a White House beset by chaos. The president became convinced that Priebus was not strong enough to run the White House operation and that he needed a general to take charge. He and two other senior Trump aides, Stephen Miller and Dan Scavino, got into a van in Trump's motorcade at Joint Base Andrews in suburban Maryalnd shortly before Trump's tweet, then Miller and Scavino got out and entered a different vehicle. "Incredible", Trump said to applause. The New Yorker magazine published an interview Thursday in which Scaramucci called Priebus, amid an avalanche of vulgarity, a "paranoid schizophrenic".

"John Kelly is one of our great stars", Trump declared.

The latest resignation of a top official barely six months into Trump's reign as President, following former press secretary Sean Spicer and former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

After months of speculation about Priebus' fate, Trump tweeted his decision as he landed in Washington after a speech in NY in which he lavishly praised Kelly's performance at Homeland Security.

In barely half a year on the job, Priebus never won the full confidence of the president nor was granted the authority to impose a working organizational structure on the West Wing. King said the president told him as they were about to get off that he was going to announce Kelly as chief of staff. "I resigned and he accepted", he told Wolf Blitzer.

"Kelly probably likely has done this many times", Keane added. "We were sitting right across from him and he kept a poker face", King said, referring to Priebus.
